Applications for registration for the 14th edition of the Semaine du Golfe du Morbihan, taking place from 3-9 May 2027, are now open.
Held every two years, this major French and international maritime heritage event brings together sailors, enthusiasts and experts to share knowledge and values during six days of festivities.
In 2025, the Semaine du Golfe welcomed more than 300,000 visitors, 1400 sailing boats and 6000 French and international sailors, thanks to its 3500 volunteers. The 2027 edition promises to be a bigger celebration than ever, with many of the larger traditional vessels already registered, including 151’ (48m) Dutch brig Morgenster built in 1919, Spanish schooner Pascual Flores and Dutch schooner Jantje, among many others. Meanwhile, the concept of the Semaine du Golfe continues, with a warm welcome to small boats, distributed into thirteen different flotillas according to type as in previous years.
Each edition of the festival – a free event – is an opportunity to highlight a theme linked to maritime heritage and the Morbihan area. In 2027, oysters and shellfish farming are on the menu. A historic activity closely connected to the sea and its working boats, shellfish farming is an economic sector which has been adapting and innovating since the 19th century, with the essential goal of preserving its environment. As well as the opportunity to sample delicious shellfish, many skills and stories can be discovered through visits to oyster farming sites and presentations of working boats at work.
Cultural events and activities ashore include concerts, tastings, conferences and site visits, with interest for all ages. The festival will celebrate the solidarity and sharing of maritime skills; working with wood, making sails, rigging, traditional navigation. Skills which are accessible to all, without cutting-edge technology or major resources.
